Videos, Drinks and Reminiscing! With nothing happening on the dropzone this past weekend – at least nothing skydiving related – it was great to be able to still get together at Doodles for our Skydiving Family Reunion. The turnout was great and the party was even better. I am told it went on quite a long while after the more sensible among us went home. The Ranch Boogie is coming up in August (details below). The operating weekends are updated on the Skydive Robertson Face Book Page, and we often post updates during the weekend as well… make sure you stay informed – Check under EVENTS http://www.facebook.com/SkydiveRobertsonWPSPC Blue Skies Skydive Robertson ![]() == Les Amis de l'Herberg Kinderhuis South Africa, Luxembourg == The above organization is based in Luxembourg and works to raise funds for the Herberg Kinderhuis in Robertson. Currently, ING Bank is running a competition and will donate funds to the organizations that receive the most votes for their social programs. By logging in and voting you could help them secure much needed funds for additional teaching staff, assistance for special-needs kids and more. There are a lot of organizations in the running, so scroll down until you see some organizations listed and then make use of the search field to the right. Searching for Herberg will do the trick. Click here to vote. == Old Skydiving Gear == If there are any ex-skydivers out there with unused gear lying around that you would like to get rid of (either free or cheaply) please do think of us. We are always on the lookout for student helmets and altis in particular. Mind you, if you have suitable conversion rigs, or AADs that are just eating up useable life in a cupboard, please do give us first refusal. If we can’t use it, we can put you in touch with Erik who can help you find a buyer. Please contact Andre on equipment@skydive.co.za if you have anything suitable. == Skydive Robertson == Skydive Robertson is based at the Robertson Airfield, a touch to the east of the picturesque and historic town of Robertson. We are 147km from Cape Town CBD and at the heart of the scenic world renowned Wine Route - “Route 62”. The club operates on weekends and public holidays throughout the year. Facilities are limited but the lawns are generous, so we suggest you bring along water, soft drinks, snacks, cooler boxes, charcoal, food, camping chairs and make yourselves at home. As we are dependent on weather and other factors, we can’t always guarantee precise times so pack a picnic and make a day of it. Bookings are essential for Tandem Skydiving and to commence Student Training. If you are interested in trying out / starting skydiving please request our latest information and bookings document. On 8th May 2012 the Western Province Sport Parachute Club WPSPC (trading as Skydive Robertson) celebrates its official 40th Birthday! It was brought home to me just how much we’d done in a short time when I saw the achievements list in the Toggle Times. I’ve extracted the Skydive Robertson entries:
That is pretty remarkable! For anyone who’s worried that Timmy only just now got his Instructor’s rating, don’t be too concerned. That’s as a Static Line instructor rating. He’s been an AFFI for ages. Frenchy, you are in there only because we love you. Sort out your DZ affiliation! Pam == Quote of the Week == “After last night I feel officially part of the family” – Tim Hart after the Doodle’s event == First Timers and Students == First Time Jumpers - Advance bookings are essential for Tandem Skydiving and Static Line First Jump Courses. Please request our latest bookings and information document. Deposit secures booking. SL Students – We do not require you to book to come jump – you are welcome any time. But feel free to let us know in advance if you’d like. Currency requirements are detailed inside the back cover of your log book – make sure you comply. AFF Students – Please either let bookings@skydive.co.za or your AFF Instructor know which weekends you intend to come up. Currency requirements are detailed inside the back cover of your log book – make sure you comply. == The Ranch Skydiving Boogie – 9 to 12 August == The Ranch Skydiving Boogie and Symposium 2012 has just been announced. It is scheduled for the weekend closest to Women’s Day, and takes place at the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort in Polokwane. There are plenty of special things planned. I would recommend you keep an eye on the link below for updates and announcements. http://www.facebook.com/groups/238005942896140/doc/437439996286066/ == Skydive for Rhinos == The African Conservation Trust (ACT) Skydive for Rhinos campaign is going National this year. The target is 448 tandem skydives (one for each South African Rhino that fell prey to poachers in 2011) across at least 5 Drop Zones. Have a look at this visual of how it all works: http://www.projectafrica.com/images/stories/Links/Skydive_for_Rhinos_campaign_visual.pdf and the website for more information: http://www.projectafrica.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=136&Itemid=144 and of course there is a Face Book Page: www.facebook.com/skydiveforrhinos == Tandem Skydiving == A Tandem Skydive entails a short but detailed briefing, a flight to altitude, and off you go attached to your highly experienced Tandem Instructor for a 35-45 second thrilling freefall experience, rounded off with a spectacular 5-7 minute parachute ride. First Time Jumpers - Advance bookings are essential for Tandem Skydiving. Please request our latest bookings and information document. Deposit secures booking. == Static Line First Jump Course and First Parachute Descent == The Static Line First Jump Course entails 6-8 hours of theory and practical training, and climaxes with your First Static Line Parachute Descent. From there you can choose to progress with either Static Line Training, or Accelerated FreeFall (AFF) Training. First Time Jumpers - Advance bookings are essential for Student Training. Please request our latest bookings and information document. Deposit secures booking. == From the Aircraft Officer == NNP’s MPI is done and she is ready to join us for the coming weekend. Of course, weather is a factor as she’s in Oudtshoorn. Watch the website, but in the meantime plan for an operating weekend. == Student Progression == Make sure you stay current! Get out the DZ, do as many jumps as you can as often as you can, ask for help and advice whenever you need it, and keep at it! The currency requirements are clearly stated inside the back cover of your log book. Club rules require you to do AT LEAST 2 jumps per month to stay current, and you should be working towards your A-Licence. Remember, your chances of skydiving are greatly increased by your being at the DZ. When you come out - DON’T FORGET to bring your log book, license and goggles. Students - AFF Students, please let us know when you intend coming out that we can plan accordingly. Please provide details and date of your last jump in email communications - currency requirements are detailed in the front page of your log book. == Booking Requests and General Information == If you are interested in trying out / starting skydiving please request our latest information and bookings document. We look forward to welcoming you and your friends and family / group to Skydive Robertson, and introducing you to the exhilarating sport of skydiving and parachuting.
