I headed for the DZ on the Friday afternoon. This promised to be an epic weekend with the canopy course, our annual Report back on the Canopy Piloting Course held in December 2010Finally the weekend of the canopy piloting course arrived and with great anticipation. I headed for the DZ on the Friday afternoon. This promised to be an epic weekend with the canopy course, our annual Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this past weekends Christmas Party for the orphans at Die Herberg in Robertson a success. Everyone was very appreciative of what we had done for them this year. We would also like to extend a very big Thank you to Pick 'n Pay and The Crazy Store for the generous contributions that you made. For more pictures on this day please look at our Die Herberg Album or gallery.Blue Skies,Skydive RobertsonI would like to thank everyone for your donations to the Herberg Orphanage Christmas fund. It is looking healthy, but we would like a contribution from everyone if possible. This is our way to give something back, and show our appreciation for how fortunate we all are. What we are doing here is not much. The folks at the Herberg do a terrific job raising funds, and more importantly raising these children well. But let's face it, no kid should be in an institution - no matter how loving and well-run - for Christmas. So if we can just make it that tiny bit more festive, how can we say no?I would especially like to thank the two retail sponsors who have pitched in this year. At this time, they are inundated with requests so it is great they have taken the time to respond to our appeal. Thanks to The Crazy Store for the box of gifts they contributed. The items were carefully selected to match each age-group and the dozens of stickers they topped up the box with will put a bit of excitement and individuality into each parcel. Thanks also to Pick 'n Pay (Robertson and Tableview branches) who have each given a voucher towards eats and drinks for the party the kids will enjoy after Santa's visit. If you can make it to the jump, do. The appreciation these kids showed last year was humbling. I just hope the Elves don't feel left out, as Father Christmas will definately be the hero of the day. Just bear in mind it is not a public event - the Herberg is responsible for any liability arising from our being there. So jumpers and those who are jump-savvy are welcome but it is not open to the general public.PamSo far most of the members have yet to make a contribution. I am hoping this will happen on the next operating weekend, for those who don't plan to make a separate bank transfer. This is a very easy call - these kids are very deserving and this project gives back to Robertson which as a whole has been very hospitable towards us. So please let's all give at least the equivalent of a jump ticket to this project. If every member can do that, together with the few who have already given more substantial amounts, we can really make a difference.I am pleased to report we've also had a donation of a few items from a retail store; I'll give details once I have them in full, and we will list the sponsor on our website if they have no objection. If anyone has contacts they think can answer our call specifically for stationery or a cash donation towards stationery, please pass on our request. Please make sure however that they understand this is not a public event, but a Christmas party for this specific group of kids. Thanks,PamSofar most of the members have yet to make a contribution. COME LEARN FROM THE MASTERDATE -17; 18 & 19 DECEMBER 2010VENUE –ROBERTSON DZRSVP: BRIAN BAXTER – brian@munnikvisser.co.caWe have just sent out our annual appeal for funds for our Father Christmas jump-in at the Herberg Kinderhuis in Robertson. This orphanage is extremely deserving and their kids are a joy! There are about 122 in total. Of these, around 40 remain there for the Christmas ...holidays as they have nowhere else to go. As part of making Christmas special for them, WPSPC decided last year that for Father Christmas to drop in from the sky would really hit the spot. We were amazed at the response. The jump took place on a rugby field, and the kids were told to stay behind the line until Father Christmas was safely on the ground. They obeyed this to the letter, but on landing Santa turned away briefly to have his helper straighten his beard. All it took was those few seconds for him to be hit in the back of the knees by a delighted 5-year-old going at full speed! Anyone less than Father Christmas would have gone down, but he recovered well and accepted several more crash-landing hugs before handing out a few parcels of toiletries. The gratefulness with which these ordinary items were received, was an eye-opener to everyone there. This year, the staff have asked us to donate stationery instead for the school-age kids. Some of them are just babies, and for them we will definitely buy toys. But we would really love to collect enough so that Father Christmas can slip something special into everyone’s parcel. Please forward our email to anyone you think would be prepared to donate as well, or else point them at www.skydive.co.za to read this appeal. It does not need to be limited to skydivers. If they want to know more, they can read up on the orphanage at www.herberg.co.za. They work really hard at getting the funds together to give these kids a decent home, so whatever help people can offer would be greatly appreciated. They can contact us through any committee member, or viabookings@skydive.co.za, or funds can be put directly into our bankaccount with “Herberg” as the reference. Thanks PamWe have just sent out our annual appeal for funds for our Father Christmas jump-in at the Herberg Kinderhuis in Robertson.Thisorphanage is extremely deserving and their kids are a joy!
